Best Spanish series on Netflix; these are the ones!
There are a number of Spanish series in the list that you may have heard about or which you have already seen but also less known series, especially in countries outside of Spain. With this series you could also learn something new in the Spanish language. By looking at Spanish series you can get used to the sounds in the Spanish language. Currently, Spanish Netflix series are doing very well. The best Spanish series according to us can be found in the list below:
1. Narcos
Essential in this list is of course Narcos. Who didn’t hear about this series or heard of the name Pablo Escobar? Narcos is about the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the agents who tried to track him down and put him behind bars. Pablo Escobar was a fascinating character. Often not sociable, sometimes socially moved but above all very tough.
After the irrevocable end of Pablo Escobar, the Calikartel will be discussed in the third season, an originally Colombian drug cartel. Also the biggest competitor of the Medellín cartel of Pablo Escobar. Besides the series, you can read right here how the life of Escobar has expired.
2. El Chapo
If you were already a fan of Narcos, this series will centainly also end up in your favorites list. This drama series tells the true story of the rise, arrest and escape of the notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
Recordings were made in Colombia, partly because of safety beacause the series doesn’t come without controversy and El Chapo is still alive, although the man is behind bars, there is still some fear. Pablo Escobar, on the other hand, has been dead for years, which gave more room to the recording of Narcos.
3. La Casa de Papel
One of the most popular Spanish series is the incredibly exciting La Casa de Papel. In this series, eight thieves lock themselves and their hostages in the Royal Mint of Spain. The aim is to carry out the biggest robbery in Spanish history, also called the ‘perfect robbery’. Together they want to print their banknotes themselves in the Royal Mint. In the meantime, the criminal mastermind (El Profesor) manipulates the police behind this robbery to carry out his plan.
4. Las Chicas del cable
Las Chicas del Cable takes place in the 1920’s in Madrid, Spain. The series revolves around four independent and ambitious telephonists (they connect callers on the telephone via cables). They build a close friendship and in the meantime work-related and love-related problems occur. The series is beautifully filmed with beautiful sets, clothes and hairstyles that bring you back to the 1920’s.
5. Vis a vis
This is probably a less-known series, but this series is certainly worth its place in our list. This series takes place in a women’s prison and contains a lot of drama and tension. The young Macarena must learn to survive in the cruel world that she enters when she goes into prison for embezzlement and tax evasion.
6. Gran hotel
This series takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century in Spain and revolves around the waiter Julio (Yon González, who also plays an important role in Las Chicas de Cable) who wants to know why his sister has disappeared. For this, he returns to her old workplace, the luxurious hotel of the Alarcón family. There are all kinds of mysteries around the Alarcón family and the servants. At the same time, the love story of Julio and one of the daughters of the Alarcón family takes place. Again you can enjoy the historical background with this series.
7. Élite
And the last in our list but certainly one of our new favorites is the latest Spanish series on Netflix, Élite. This series is just out (October 5) and immediately is a big hit on the internet. The series is already talked about a lot and that, also even before the series was online. If you watched La Casa de Papel, you will also see a number of familiar faces in this series.
The Élite series is about three ‘working-class’ students who are sent to Las Encinas after their local school has been destroyed. From one day to the next they’re at one of the most prestigious and exclusive schools in Spain, where they immediately face the drama that occurs in the lives of the richest teenagers in the school. The series starts with some tension in and outside the school, but ultimately turns into a murder mystery that needs to be solved.
We liked this series so much that we finished the series in a few days. The series has 1 season with 8 episodes. But we definitely see it happening that there will be added a second season. Fingers crossed!
