A Sangria contains: one bottle of red wine, two oranges, one lemon, some cubes of pineapple, one mango, a dash of liquor 43, three teaspoons of sugar (if your prefer, you can leave the sugar part) and one bottle of agua con gas (sparkling water). Limonada

This cocktail is a look-a-like of Sangria. Do not confuse this one with Sangria, because they taste totally different. Tinto de Verano tastes sweeter than Sangria. This cocktail Spain is very easy to prepare. This drink only contains a bottle of red wine and a lemon soda. You can use soda’s as 7up and Sprite. We prefer Sprite, because this soda is less sweet then 7up and more refreshing. In case you will like sweeter cocktails, we recommend you to use 7up and some sugar. Grocery shops in Spain also sell ready-made Tinto de Verano. These are also not really bad, but the home-made ones are way better and also easy to make. Our tip at this cocktail is: put some ice in it. This alcoholic drink tastes the best if it is very cold.

Agua di Valencia

As the name already says: this cocktail is from the region Valencia. This might be the most refreshing drink of all, and perfect to drink at those hot summer days. There are a lot of different kinds Agua di Valencia’s these days, but the authentic recipe is without sugar and made with fresh oranges. It is a festive drink which is made of: fresh orange juice, cava, vodka and gin. If you would like to make it a little bit sweeter: add some white sugar to it. Calimocho

This is a popular drink among Spanish youth. It sounds quite awful, but Spanish youngsters like to drink this before a night out. It is a very easy alcoholic drink made of Coca-Cola and red wine.

Do you already know to which drink this name refers? Well, to the famous Spanish Licor 43 ofcourse! This typical Spanish liquor is based on 43 secret ingredients. Why I’m sharing my internship experience Valencia with you

To be honest, I do not really know how to explain how Valencia is. You must see and experience the city yourself. Valencia is a beautiful city with a stunning, but also a really relaxed atmosphere. You will not over-work here quickly, because everyone is super relaxed and very friendly. In case you are interested in an overview of Valencia’s highlights, take a quick look at Ciudad de las Artes Y Ciencias. They made a nice short overview of the ten most popular sightseeing activities in Valencia. I am going to tell you something about my experiences as a Valencian local, how my internship experience Valencia is and how I experience the Spanish culture. So far so good, because I really enjoy my internship in this beautiful city!

Before

It is nice to be aware of some practical stuff before you leave to Valencia. No, not about the city itself. It is the best to not expect too much about the city, otherwise you would not be fully open for enjoying the little things that this amazing city has to offer. But, it is good to be informed about some of the practical stuff before you leave. Before you leave to Valencia for more than one month, it is important to fix your insurances. This includes insurances of material value, but also your health insurance. I do not know exactly how this works in another country than the Netherlands, but in The Netherlands you can fix this in the cheapest way at your bank. Do not forget to take your ID and insurance-card with you to Valencia, because you do not want to get in front of unwanted surprises. Besides insurances, do not forget to fix your eventual bursary’s. You and your parents already pay enough taxes. Grab what you can, or is that typical Dutch…? If you fix an internship via Stage in Spanje, you will not have to fix accommodation or contracts yourself. Very relaxing, because doing business as a non-Spanish student with a Spanish company will be difficult. If you are planning to fix it all yourself: do not forget to sign for a few days in a new month, because the company will let you pay for a full month instead of a few days. Oh, and do not forget that it is not very common to have a quilt in Spain. Only a thin blanket, but that is probably not warm enough during the winter.

My great internship experience Valencia

I’m enjoying Valencia muchos muchos. I am doing an internship at a Dutch company in Valencia: Suspanish. The working environment is outstanding. I have a lot of freedom in choosing my workspace, but still I prefer to work at the office. I can ask all my questions directly, and I am free to share my own innovative ideas with the two bosses of the company. As an intern, I am seen as a real employee at the company and taken very seriously. I get involved in many business activities, and I am allowed to give feedback to the company. After work, we drink a beer or wine with each other and talk about informal stuff. After work, you can find me in the city centre, Ruzafa or at the beach. I have seen almost every popular sights of the city, namely: Plaza del Virgen, Ciudad de las Artes Y Ciencias, Jardin del Turia, Catedral Santa María, Mercat Central, Torres de Serranos, L’Oceanografic, Barrio del Carmen and many more. A nice tip is to rent a bike and bicycle through the pretty and colorful Turia Park. You can rent the local public transport bike ‘Valenbisi’ for just 14 euros for a whole week, and 30 euros for a whole year. Are you searching for a nice activity during the evening? Do a wine-tasting tour or enjoy the music at Radio City. More in for an evening dancing? Visit Umbracle and Mya (this is a two-in-one place). Do not throw your entrance receipt away, because herewith you can consume one drink. You can relax and get over your hangover from last night at the Beach. Here, you can find nice food-spots and places to have a drink. Valencia has got a great and wide beach, including a deep blue sea.

Important note: we recommend you to speak some basic Spanish before you are going to do these activities! This could be very necessary, in case something happens to you and you have to explain the situation. Safety is not guaranteed. Neither these five activities in real-life, nor reading this article. #5: El Colacho – Devils jump over babies

The baby jumping festival – in Spanish known as ‘’El Colacho’’ – could be something really new to you. This village’s religious feast of Corpus Christi is not like the well-known tradition. Instead of gently dunking the new born baby’s head under cleansing waters, the new born babies are during this feast cleansed in a totally different way. When this feast started is not really clear, but at least back in the early 1600s. During this holiday, parents with new born babies take their little sprouts out for this holy feast. They lay them in neat rows of soft pillows that are laid down on the streets. While the parents watch, the men dressed in yellow and red costumes (and masks) begin filling the crowd. They terrorizing everyone and whipping bystanders with switches. They jump over the little babies and herewith perform the cleansing ritual. Before parents take their baby away, the babies will be sprinkled with rose petals. This holy feast is against the Papal Grain, because they would prefer a more traditional baptism. Junta de los Rios is the point where two rivers meet each other. The River Verde (the Green river) and the River Negro (the black river). They both form really tall waterfalls and crystal clear, deep rock pools. The river Verde is one of Spanish most hazardous rivers and perfect for activities as canyoning. To experience the Junta de los Rios in the fullest way, you can join a group tour for canyoning. You can also hike next to the rivers, and this is definitely also a must-do! You will see the most beautiful nature and a totally different side of Spain. The office – where you can have acces to the Junta de los Rios, if you are going to hike this wonderful path – is closed on Mondays, but opened on Tuesdays to Sundays from 10.00 – 19.00. The entrance fee is 5 euros per person and a further 5 euro for the car. This dangerous, but also very beautiful activity takes place in Otivar, Granada.

#2: Rio Noguera Pallaresa – Roughly rafting

Useful information you must know before entering La tomatina

This year, La tomatina will also take place in Buñol. The official organisation of this tomato throwing event created some rules to keep the event safe and awesome. It is possible to buy tickets online and don’t worry about transport and accommodation. You have to be a little prepared for tomatina, otherwise you’ll be buried in tomato smash. That is the reason why we wrote down some useful information you must know before entering La tomatina.

Bunol

Perhaps you have not heard about this town in the region of Valencia before, but the tomato throwing festival will take place in Buñol. This town is located 40 kilometres from Valencia (city). Buñol has got around 10.000 inhabitants. Do you want to know where you can have typically Spanish food or what to do in Buñol besides La tomatina? Click here.

Rules

• La tomatina is held on the last Wednesday of August.
• Tomatina begins at 11.00 with a bang and ends with another bang at 12.00.
• Do not bring bottles or hard objects.
• Do not tear or throw your or others’ shirts.
• Squash the tomatoes before you throw them.
• Keep a safe distance of the lorries.
• Stop throwing tomatoes when you hear the 2^nd bang.
• Follow security and staff directions.
• Backpacks, bags, cameras or any other object that could be the cause of harm are not allowed to enter.

Tickets

For around 10 euros you can buy a ticket for La tomatina. You can buy these tickets online at the official website. It is also possible to buy combination tickets. Stoketravel offers combination tickets including drinks and accommodation.

Transport

It is possible to rent a car from Valencia to Buñol, but you can also travel by train. Antother option is to go by bus. Several companies will offer tours to La tomatina, like Stoketravel.

Accommodation

Beforehand, it could be of interest knowing that Buñol has not got a wide range of accommodation possibilities. It would be better if you book a hotel or apartment, a longer time before the festival takes place. Another option is to book an accommodation in Valencia, in case of that you have to think about transport (see transport above).

• Wear clothes/shoes which you will not wear again after La tomatina.
• Wear comfortable shoes.
• Bring swimming goggles, the tomato juice can be really painful for your eyes.
• Bring clean clothes for after the tomato throwing festival.
• There is a good train connection between Buñol and Valencia, so having an accommodation in Valencia is easy and possible.
• Do not bring stuff that are not allowed to take (see rules).
• Do not ensure that you will be the target.

History

Haro had to mark official lines between the property of two neighbours. 400 years later, the observation ended and people started throwing wine at each other. From now on, this wine tradition began and earned the name ‘War of Wine’. In 1965 this name was changed into the battle of wine: Batalla del Vino en Haro. Haro is a small town located in the mountains of the famous Rioja wines. It is located in the Spanish region ‘La Rioja’. This town is around 40,5 km2 and has about 11.806 inhabitants. You have beautiful wine yards and the city has got the most beautiful old buildings. Haro is very close to Bilboa and Pamplona, in the north of Spain.

Transport

To get to Haro, you have several options. You can go by train, by bus and by airplane. The easiest way is to arrive in San Sebastian, this is a place nearby the French border. These are freshly caught sardines which have been grilled on a stick. A real must-try! The closest beach to the city is ‘Playa de la Malagueta’. That is why this is the most crowded and touristic beach of Malaga. A beach where you can find more locals is ‘Playa Peñon del Cuervo’. Here, you will not find beach bars and restaurants, but it is still popular among locals.

New Port

Stroll down through the new port of Malaga and watch boats floating in.

At Meulle Uno (which is a shopping area located near the city centre) you can shop until you drop. The shopping and commerce centre is 14.000 square meters and has more than 1000 parking spots.
